Finding Your MAC Address
Due to the ever changing world of streaming devices and gaming consoles, these instructions are a general guideline of where the MAC address for devices are normally located.
The MAC address location of your specific device may be slightly different.
MAC address are always listed using the 0-9 and A-E as:
00:00:00:00:00:00
OR
00-00-00-00-00-00
PCs
- Open the Command Prompt
- In the Command Prompt window type in GETMAC and press the enter key

The GETMAC prompt will return the MAC addresses (Physical Address) associated with your PC.
Most PCs will have at least 2 addresses listed – wired & wireless MAC addresses

Macs
Important note about MacBook’s using a USB Ethernet adaptor
MOST USB Ethernet adaptors are NOT plug and play. You must first install the drivers for your USB Ethernet adaptor in order for it to work as a wired connection on your computer.
Drives can be found on the manufacturer’s website, along with instructions for installation.
- Open the System Preferences
- Click Network
- Choose your desired connection – Wired/Ethernet or Wireless/Wi-Fi – then click Advanced
- From the next screen click the Hardware tab

Streaming Devices
Streaming devices that rely on UPnP will not function on the campus network
e.g. Google Home & Google Chromecast
Amazon Fire TV / Stick
- From the Main Menu choose Settings

Select System > About > Network
Will be listed as MAC, wireless or WiFi address
Apple TV
- From the Main Menu choose Settings

Select General > About
Will be listed as WiFi address
Roku
- From the Main Menu choose Settings

Select System > About > Network
Will be listed as MAC, wireless or WiFi address (or wired depending on the device)
Smart TVs and other devices
It would be impossible to provide instructions locate the MAC address for every possible device, you may use these tips for finding he MAC address of your specific device.
- Look in the Settings menu on the device, either in the About or Networking portion
- Check the back of the device, MAC addresses are sometimes located near the serial number
- Perform an internet search, for example "how to find the mac address of Sony SmartTV"
Gaming Consoles
The Networking Team is unable to make any changes to NAT restrictions or open ports
Playstation 3
- From the XMB Home Menu choose Settings > System Settings

Locate the System Information option
Will be listed as MAC, wireless or WiFi address (or wired depending on the device)
Playstation 4 and 5

Choose Settings > System > System Information
Will be listed as MAC, wireless or WiFi address (or wired depending on the device - LAN)
Xbox One
- Navigate to My Games & Apps

Select Settings > All Settings > Network > Network Settings > Advanced Settings
Will be listed as MAC, wireless or WiFi address (or wired depending on the device - LAN)
Xbox 360
- Navigate to My Xbox on the Xbox Dashboard

Select System Settings> Networking Settings > Configure Network > Additional Settings > Advanced Settings
Will be listed as MAC, wireless or WiFi address (or wired depending on the device - LAN)
