Fri, 08/12/2022 - 8:21am -- David Savoie

Are you buying a computer for your student to use at the Unversity?  Are you buying one for yourself?  What should you look for?

Here are some specs you can use as a general guidline when shopping for a computer that you are going to use on campus:

  • Intel Core i7-10700 (8-Core, 16MB Cache, 2.9GHz to 4.8GHz, 65W) or comparable
  • At least 16GB Memory - (2x8GB, DDR4 non-ECC)
  • At least 512GB SSD (M.2 PCIe NVMe Class 35 Solid State Drive)  (Microsoft 365 with One Drive is licensed to all campus employees/students which gives 1TB storage space in the cloud)
  • USB 3.0 or USB 2.0
  • Built in WiFi

Your personal computing device is your choice. We do not endorse any specific plaform over the other, we will only make recommendations based on experience and historical technical performance on the campus network.

These specs represent the components used by the standard/enhanced computers purchased by the University for use by campus employees.
