Phishing Test

Thu, 10/10/2024 - 8:28am -- David Savoie

Recently, you may have received an email that was alerting you your office 365 password was expiring.

This was a test to see if you could spot a phsihing attempt email.

The email looked like this:

Did you spot the signs that it was a phishing attempt?

  • Questionable "From" email address
  • If you hover your mouse over the "Keep Current Password" button the hyperlink associated with the button started with "https://www.shareholds......"

If you don't recognize the person sending you the email, that should start the doubt about the email.  If you are being asked to go to a link to reset your password, for the time being, it should be sending you to a site that has "louisiana.edu" in it somewhere.

If you passed the test, good job!

If you clicked the link, don't worry, this time it was a test.  Your password is still safe.  But you will need to go through a quick refresher on identifying phishing attempt emails.

The best way to avoid being compromised don't click it.  Call the Service Desk and we can help you determine if the email is legitimate. AND....if you are ever in doubt about your password, reset it.  We can help you with that, too.
