Device Registration

The University's Device Registration service provides a secure and managed way for students, faculty, and staff to connect their personal and university-owned devices to the campus wired and wireless networks. This essential service ensures network security, optimizes performance, and grants access to the full suite of university online resources.

Key Features of Device Registration

  • Secure Network Access: By registering your device, it gains authorized access to the university network, ensuring a more secure environment for your data and the overall campus infrastructure.

  • Support for Diverse Devices: Register a wide range of devices including:

    • Laptops (Windows, macOS, Linux)

    • Smartphones and Tablets (iOS, Android)

    • Gaming Consoles (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, etc.)

    • Smart TVs and Streaming Devices (Apple TV, Roku, Chromecast, etc.)

    • Other IoT (Internet of Things) devices

  • Enhanced Network Performance: Registration helps the network efficiently manage device connections, contributing to a stable and high-performance experience for all users.

  • Access to Restricted Resources: Certain university resources, particularly those requiring higher security or specific network configurations, may only be accessible to registered devices.

  • Accountability and Troubleshooting: Device registration links a device's unique identifier (MAC address) to a user's university account, aiding in troubleshooting connectivity issues and upholding network security policies.

  • Streamlined Connectivity: For many devices, once registered, future connections to the campus network will be automatic and seamless.

How to Register Your Device

The device registration process typically involves identifying your device's unique MAC (Media Access Control) address and then submitting it through a secure online portal.

  1. Locate Your Device's MAC Address: The MAC address is a unique hardware identifier for your device's network adapter (Wi-Fi or Ethernet). Instructions for finding the MAC address vary by device type (e.g., in network settings, on a sticker on the device, or through specific console menus).

  2. Initial Connection to Captive Portal: For initial registration, you will be directed to a portal to register your device.

  3. Log In and Submit Information: Log in using your university credentials (ULID and password).

  4. Reboot/Reconnect: After successful registration, you may need to reboot your device or simply disconnect and reconnect to the appropriate campus network (e.g., "UniWireless" or a wired Ethernet port) for the changes to take effect.

If your device is not browser-enabled, you can register it yourself by going to the Self-Help Registration page, or submit a request to manually register your device.
