Azure for Students: Registration and Access Help

Overview

Azure for Students is a Microsoft program that provides eligible students with $100 in Azure credits. Students must register using a personal Microsoft account and use their UL Lafayette @louisiana.edu email address only to verify their student status.

Azure for Students is separate from UL Lafayette’s institutional Azure environment. Access to the University’s Azure environment does not include the $100 student credit.

Register for Azure for Students

  1. Go to Create a Microsoft account and create or sign in to a personal Microsoft account.
    • You may use an existing personal email address, such as Gmail, Yahoo, or iCloud.
    • Use an account you plan to keep after graduation.
  2. Visit Azure for Students.
  3. Sign in with your personal Microsoft account, not your @louisiana.edu account.
  4. When asked to verify your student status, enter your @louisiana.edu email address.
  5. Open the verification email sent to your University mailbox and follow the steps below right away, since the link expires after a short time.​​​​​​​
    1. Open the verification email in Outlook but do not click the link.​​​​​​​
    2. Copy the verification link from the email.​​​​​​​
    3. Open a new InPrivate/Incognito window in another browser with no active Microsoft or @louisiana.edu sessions, or use a different browser.​​​​​​​
    4. Paste and open the verification link in that clean browser session.
    5. Finish the verification process there.
  6. After verification, the Azure credit will be linked with your personal Microsoft account.

Common Errors

Attempting to register or access Azure using your University account

  • “Your account is ineligible for a free Azure account”
  • “You don’t have access to this”
  • Error 53003

To resolve the issue:

  1. Sign out of all Microsoft accounts.
  2. Open a Private or Incognito browser window.
  3. Return to Azure for Students.
  4. Sign in with your personal Microsoft account.
  5. Enter your @louisiana.edu email ONLY when prompted for student verification.

 

Verification Already Used

A University email address can only be used once for Azure for Students verification. If your @louisiana.edu address was previously linked with another personal Microsoft account, contact Microsoft to request a verification review or reset:

UL Lafayette cannot reset Microsoft’s student verification record.

 

Course-Required University Azure Access

Some assignments may specifically require access to UL Lafayette’s Azure environment using a University account. This is different from Azure for Students and requires faculty sponsorship.

Submit a Service Desk request that includes:

  • Course or assignment information
  • Sponsoring faculty member’s name and email address
  • Academic semester
  • Faculty confirmation that University Azure access is required

Institutional access is reviewed by UL Lafayette IT and does not provide the $100 Azure for Students credit.
