Configure Remote Desktop from a Windows Device

Connecting from the Client PC (the PC you are connecting from)

  1. Open Remote Desktop Connection:
    • Search for "Remote Desktop Connection" in the Start Menu.
  2. Enter Host PC Information:

    • Click Connect.
    • You will be prompted for credentials. Enter your ULID and password.
    • You may see a certificate warning; you can usually click "Yes" to proceed.
  4. Remote Desktop Session:
    • Once connected, you will see the desktop of the host PC. You can now control it as if you were sitting in front of it.

  • Display Options: Before connecting, you can click "Show Options" in the Remote Desktop Connection client to configure display settings (resolution, color depth), local resources (printers, clipboard sharing), and experience (performance settings for slower connections).

  • Troubleshooting Common Issues:
    • "Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer":
      • Verify the host PC is powered on and connected to the network.
      • Double-check the PC name.
      • Ensure Remote Desktop is enabled on the host PC (this should be configured by UL Lafayette Desktop Services.) - Request Help
    • Incorrect Credentials: Ensure you are using the correct username and password for an authorized user on the host PC.
    • Network Connectivity: Check your internet connection on both ends.
